[ Tax Accountant · Gold Coast ]
A tax accountant who looks at the year while you can still change it.
Wakefield Pacific is a registered tax agent based in Mermaid Beach on the Gold Coast, working with established privately owned businesses and the groups behind them.
The returns have to be right. But the part that changes the number is the conversation before 30 June — and most owners never get it.

[ The timing problem ]
Most tax conversations happen months after the tax was decided.
A business owner finds out what the year cost somewhere between October and March, once the returns are done. By then the equipment has been bought, the profit has been taken, the distributions have been made and the position is fixed.
None of that is a failure of the tax return. It is a failure of timing. The questions worth asking are the ones that still have an answer:
- What is the tax position looking like before 30 June, not after it?
- Does the current structure still suit the business and the owners?
- What does buying the equipment actually cost after tax?
- How should profit be taken — wages, dividends, distributions or a mix?
- Where do the loan accounts and Division 7A sit?
- What will need to be set aside, and when will it be due?
[ The work ]
The compliance work, done properly and on time.
Prepared for the whole group rather than entity by entity, so the positions line up before anything is lodged.
- Annual financial statements
- Company, trust and partnership tax returns
- Individual returns for the owners
- BAS and GST accounting where scoped
- Fringe Benefits Tax
- Division 7A and loan account positions
- Self-managed super fund accounting and tax
- ATO correspondence, reviews and lodgement programs
[ How the year runs ]
Three points of contact, not one.
The lodgement is the last step. It is the two before it that change the outcome.
01
Through the year
We work from current accounting information rather than a shoebox in July. Where something in the numbers changes the tax position, it gets raised then.
02
Before year end
A planning conversation while there is still time to consider the options — timing, structure, contributions, distributions and what needs to be set aside.
03
After year end
Statements and returns prepared for the whole group, lodged on the agent program, with the result explained rather than emailed as a PDF.
[ Structure ]
Most tax outcomes were set by a decision made years earlier.
Who owns the business, what sits inside the operating entity, where the property is held and how profit reaches the owners — those choices set the tax position long before a return is prepared.
They are worth revisiting when the business changes: a partner joins or leaves, a property is bought, the profit changes shape, or someone starts thinking about selling.

What does a tax accountant on the Gold Coast actually do?
+
The compliance work — financial statements, company, trust, partnership and individual tax returns, BAS and GST accounting where it is in scope, Fringe Benefits Tax and ATO correspondence. The more useful part is the work before that: looking at the tax position while there is still time to do something about it.
When should tax planning happen?
+
While the year is still running. A planning conversation in the last quarter can consider timing, structure, contributions, equipment and distributions. The same conversation after 30 June is a report on decisions already made.
Do you handle company, trust and family group tax returns?
+
Yes. Most of our clients are groups rather than a single entity — an operating company, a trust, sometimes a property entity and a self-managed super fund. We prepare the group together so the positions line up.
Can you help with an ATO debt or a payment arrangement?
+
We can help you understand the position, get the lodgements up to date and deal with the ATO on your behalf as your registered tax agent. What is possible depends on the circumstances and on the ATO, not on us.
Do I need to be on the Gold Coast to work with you?
+
No. Our office is at 1/3 Atlantic Ave, Mermaid Beach QLD 4218 and much of our client base is local, but we work with businesses across South East Queensland and elsewhere in Australia.
Are you registered tax agents?
+
Yes. Wakefield Pacific is a registered tax agent, TPB registration 26056643.
What does the tax work cost?
+
Ongoing business engagements start from $875 + GST per month. Where the work is a one-off set of returns rather than an ongoing relationship, we quote it after we see the entities involved.
Can you take over from my current accountant mid-year?
+
Yes. We request the records from your previous accountant, handle the ATO agent changeover and tell you what we need from you and when.
