[ Financial Clarity Session ]

Something in the numbers
doesn't add up? Let's look at it properly.

We'll review your accounting information before we meet, sit down with you for 60–90 minutes and work through what we're seeing.

You don't need to change accountants or sign up for an ongoing engagement. Sometimes you just need another set of eyes on the business.

[ A useful time to book ]

Usually, there's a question
behind the numbers.

You don't need to arrive with a perfectly defined problem. But there is usually something that has made you stop and question what is happening in the business.

Profit is improving, but cash isn't.

We can look at where the cash is going and whether movements in debtors, tax, debt, stock, drawings or other parts of the business help explain it.

Revenue is growing, but the result doesn't feel better.

We can look at margin, wages, overheads and other movements to understand what has changed underneath the top-line growth.

You're considering a significant decision.

A new employee. Equipment. Borrowing. A distribution. Another location. We can look at the financial position before you commit.

Something in the reports doesn't make sense.

If a number has moved and you don't understand why, we can work through it with you rather than simply pointing to the report.

You want another view.

You might already have an accountant and have no immediate intention of changing. That's fine. The session can be booked as a standalone piece of work.

[ How it works ]

We do the reading
before we sit down with you.

Two Wakefield Pacific team members reviewing financial information together at a desk
01

Tell us what's prompting the session.

Before we start, we'll ask what is happening in the business and what has prompted you to book the session.

That gives us some direction before we start reviewing the numbers.

02

We review the information before we meet.

We'll get the accounting information we need and review the relevant parts of the file before the session.

The point is to use the meeting to discuss what we're seeing, rather than spend the first half of it trying to understand the basics.

It is a focused review appropriate to the question being considered, not a line-by-line examination of every account, entity, tax position and historical year. If something needs deeper investigation, we'll explain that and scope it separately.

03

We work through it with you.

The session runs for 60–90 minutes, either in person or online.

We'll work through the parts of the financial position that matter to the question in front of you, explain what has changed and discuss anything we think deserves attention.

If there are several reasonable options, we'll explain the differences rather than pretend there is always one obvious answer.

04

We write down the important parts.

After the session, we'll send you a short written summary of what we discussed, what deserves attention and any next steps worth considering.

[ What we look at ]

We follow the question,
not a standard report.

What we review depends on why you've booked the session and what is happening in the business. That might include:

  • profit and gross margin
  • cash movement
  • debtors
  • wages and employee costs
  • overheads
  • business debt
  • tax liabilities
  • owner drawings or distributions
  • working capital
  • unusual movements between periods
  • the financial effect of a decision you're considering

Not every item is reviewed in every session.

The quality of the discussion depends on the quality of the information underneath it.

We need enough current and reliable accounting information to interpret what is happening properly.

[ What you'll leave with ]

A better understanding of what's happening
and what deserves attention.

The purpose of the session is not to produce another large report. It is to help you understand the financial position well enough to have a more useful conversation about the question in front of you.

What we saw

The movements or issues that stood out in the information we reviewed.

What we think it means

Our view on what may be driving those movements and why they matter.

What may need attention

Anything we think needs to be checked, corrected, watched or investigated further.

What comes next

The options or next steps discussed during the session.

We'll capture the important parts in a short written summary after the meeting.

[ When it may not be the right starting point ]

Sometimes the numbers need work
before we can rely on them.

A Financial Clarity Session works best when there is enough current financial information for us to form a useful view.

The accounting is significantly behind.

If the records are too incomplete to interpret properly, we may need to deal with that first.

The file needs substantial cleanup or reconstruction.

A focused review is not designed to replace a larger accounting cleanup project.

The question involves a major transaction or technical tax issue.

Some matters need deeper tax, structuring, modelling or investigation work than can reasonably be covered in one session.

The issue needs detailed modelling.

If the decision requires a substantial forecast or scenario model to answer properly, that may need to be scoped separately.

If we review the information and think the Financial Clarity Session is not the right starting point, we'll tell you.

[ Who can book ]

You don't need to be looking
for a new accountant.

Wakefield Pacific advisers in a meeting with a business owner going through financial information

You can book a Financial Clarity Session whether you're already a Wakefield Pacific client or not.

It can be useful when you want another experienced view of the business without committing to a broader accounting or advisory relationship.

If the session is all you need from us, that's fine.

More than one owner?

If the question affects several owners, it is often useful to have everyone in the room. That gives everyone the opportunity to hear the same explanation of the financial position and discuss the options from the same information.

If more work is needed

If the session uncovers something that needs more work, we'll explain what we think should happen next. That might mean a separate piece of accounting or tax work, a more detailed review, 90 Days to Clarity or ongoing business advisory. Anything beyond the Financial Clarity Session is discussed and scoped separately.

[ The fee ]

$990 + GST.

The fee includes the preparation before the session, the 60–90 minute meeting and the written summary afterwards.

There is no requirement to enter an ongoing engagement with Wakefield Pacific.

[ Questions ]

Practical answers
before you book.

Broader questions about working with us are answered on the questions page.

01Do I need to be a Wakefield Pacific client?

No. The Financial Clarity Session can be booked as a standalone piece of work.

There is no requirement to move your accounting to Wakefield Pacific afterwards.

02What do you need before the session?

We'll need access to enough current accounting information to review the issue properly, along with some context about what has prompted the session.

We'll tell you exactly what we need before the meeting.

03What if my accounts aren't up to date?

We need enough reliable information to make the session useful.

If we review the file and find that the records are too far behind, or there are issues that need to be fixed before we can properly interpret the numbers, we'll tell you.

We won't pretend the information can answer a question it can't.

04Can I bring my business partner?

Yes. If the question affects more than one owner, having everyone involved can make the conversation more useful.

05Is the session in person or online?

Either. We can meet at our Mermaid Beach office or run the session online.

06What happens after the session?

We'll send you the short written summary discussed above.

If that's all you need from Wakefield Pacific, the engagement ends there.

If the session identifies something that needs more work and you'd like us to help with it, we'll discuss and scope that separately.

07Will you tell me what you think?

Yes. We'll explain what we see, what we think it means and where we believe attention may be needed. If there are different options, we'll talk through them with you.

The decision remains yours.
