Wakefield Pacific becomes an official partner of Project Australia

A $5,000 contribution from funds raised at the 2025 Alex Carlsson Memorial Golf Day will help the team manage the logistics of its continuous 4,000-kilometre relay in support of Beyond DV.

Wakefield Pacific is proud to become an official partner of Project Australia, contributing $5,000 to help the team manage the logistics of its journey from Cottesloe Beach in Western Australia to Bondi Beach in Sydney.

Project Australia will see six athletes cover 4,000 kilometres over 15 days.

The athletes will rotate in shifts around the clock, with someone running at all times from the moment the team leaves Cottesloe Beach until it reaches Bondi Beach.

Three support vehicles will travel with the athletes, carrying the people, food, equipment and support required to keep the team moving across the country.

The project is raising funds and awareness for Beyond DV, which supports women and children as they rebuild their lives after domestic and family violence.

A partnership with a personal connection

For Wakefield Pacific Director Mitchell Calley, the partnership has a personal connection.

Mitchell and Project Australia founder Hayden Sumner played football together for many years during the late 2000s and early 2010s.

“Hayden and I played football together for years, so I have known him for a long time,” Mitchell said.

“When we heard what he and the team were taking on, and why they were doing it, we wanted to help in a practical way.

“We are proud to support them.

Hayden created Project Australia in memory of his mum.

He has spoken publicly about losing her when he was seven, after she had experienced domestic violence.

The journey is his way of honouring her and supporting other women and children affected by domestic and family violence.

“This is not about putting our name beside a project,” Mitchell said.

“It is about helping Hayden and the team get across the country and giving the project the best chance of reaching more people.

“The cause matters, and the work they are putting in deserves support.

Made possible by the Alex Carlsson Memorial Golf Day

Wakefield Pacific’s $5,000 contribution has been made possible by the people and businesses who supported the 2025 Alex Carlsson Memorial Golf Day.

Wakefield Pacific had not yet allocated all of the money raised at the event.

“We kept part of the golf-day funds aside because we wanted to use them where they could make a real difference,” Mitchell said.

“When Project Australia came along, it felt like the right opportunity.

“The logistics behind a challenge like this are significant. Our contribution will help the team get the people, vehicles and support they need across the country.

Wakefield Pacific thanks every golfer, sponsor, prize donor, volunteer and supporter who contributed to the 2025 Alex Carlsson Memorial Golf Day.

Without their involvement, this partnership would not have been possible.

This is their contribution as much as it is ours.

About Project Australia

Project Australia is a continuous 4,000-kilometre relay from Cottesloe Beach in Western Australia to Bondi Beach in Sydney.

Six athletes will rotate in shifts so that someone is running 24 hours a day until the team reaches Bondi.

The project is raising awareness and funds for Beyond DV and the women and children it supports.

Donations help fund the considerable logistics involved in completing the run, with additional proceeds supporting Beyond DV.

Support the journey

Wakefield Pacific encourages its clients, team members, friends and wider community to follow Project Australia and support the athletes and crew.

Every contribution helps the team undertake the challenge, increase awareness and generate further support for Beyond DV.
